Todd Feit approached his wife Tonya and had a confession to make.
“Honey, I’m having an affair,” he paused briefly. “With this island.”
“It’s okay,” she spoke with understanding in her voice. “I am, too.”
While this type of love affair with Key West is common for many visitors, very few take the plunge and dive head first.
Fortunately for locals and tourists alike, the Feit’s adoration for the Conch Republic has resulted in them taking over as new owners of Key Accents, conveniently located at 804 Caroline Street.
A former show designer in New York City, Tonya says, “It was like my soul was already living here,” Tonya explains. “And now my body has arrived.”
Passersby can see that the Feit’s island love story is alive and well as they peruse the charming inventory of Key Accents.
Specializing in gifts, home furnishings and photography, Key Accents is a direct representation of its owner’s love for the island.
The beauty of the shop is that it is quite literally gauged for everybody; that is, people who are local and visitors on any kind of budget.
Their walls are splashed with tasteful art and prints, both domestic and foreign. Gorgeous furniture makes for a backdrop for various gifts and coastal items. But perhaps the most striking element of Key Accents is the setting itself.
“The house is the leading lady,” Tonya describes with a romantic tone. “It’s got incredible energy and really gives off that old Key West feel.”
“We’re really fortunate to be able to do this every day and share our passion with other people,” Todd illuminates as he takes in the ambiance of the shop. “Our items don’t necessarily say Key West, but they evoke memories and make people want to come back to that happy place.”
