Metal Master Custom Powder Coating opened its doors just over 2 and ½ years ago. Owners Brian and Kristie MacDonald found the perfect location on Stock Island at Robbie’s Marina, in the warehouse marked Geslin Sailmakers. Examples of their creative work are displayed on walls and shelves in their cozy office; their Facebook page is loaded with even more tempting projects. The MacDonald’s have been married for 24 years and their pride and joy is their 18 year old son. “He’s thrived in Sugarloaf schools and in the Keys in general,” says proud mom Kristie. “We all love the water, going out on the boat, fishing and diving.” They adopted another ‘son” 3 years ago from the local SPCA; he’s a large, sweet, husky-malamute mix named Havoc.

Brian is a former Coastie and after a transfer from Maine to Marathon, FL, they fell in love with the Keys and made it a goal to call it their permanent home. Brian and Kristie were both successful boat mechanics with the stress of running up and down the keys- they realized they needed a break. There was no small-scale custom powder coating available in the Lower Keys and after extensive training, Metal Master was born. “This business is perfect for us, low stress, high reward and we get to use our creativity,” explains Brian.
